Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood situated in the West Island of Montreal is something you could call a "sleepy" location. People who don't understand the name mistakenly believe that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually it is this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often known as the place where she was born. But she only resided there for a very short duration. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. In her early years she wanted to be professional performer, however an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. In an article published by Toronto Star, she revealed that she wore heels and was 6 foot 1 inch tall. When I reached the height of the size of my male friends, I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in Brugel's case it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school who led her in the right direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the annual school production. She auditioned and eventually got the leading role for the role in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the last 20 years, her work has been featured on both the small and big screen. Her work gained most recognition when she landed her character of Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel played the role of Rita in the Handmaid's Tale the series filming over 10 years ago.
